One of the most interesting and newest Android smartphone companies, Nothing, has launched their newest phone to compete with the mass market.
The Nothing company has sparked interest in the tech community mainly due to its 'glyph interface.' This is a series of LED panels on the back of the phone that can communicate to the user of their notifications, timers, battery, volume, and even phone calls. The company has designed their own spin-off of the Android software system, called NothingOS.
With the new Phone (2), Nothing has physically separated the glyph interface into more sections to have more capabilities with NothingOS 2.0. One of those features include the custom ringtone creator. This is an app that is installed by default on all Nothing phones that allows users to custom design their own ringtone by pressing DJ-like buttons in the app that play sounds while flashing the interface on the back. SO, when you get a call, you will hear your custom ringtone and see your programmed light sequence on the back.
Another notable feature of the interface on the back are the way timers are viewed. The phone shows any timers that are running to be a progress bar slowly ticking down on the LEDs, which wasn't a feature available in the previous generation of their smartphone.
They have also upgraded their design of the cameras. The rear-facing camera has a new bumped up 50MP (Sony IMX890 sensor) compared to a previous Sony IMX766 sensor. Meanwhile, the front camera has just about doubled the quality, going from a 16MP camera to a 32MP camera. Nothing has also decided to move the front facing hole punch camera to the center instead of the top left side of the screen.
In my opinion, this Nothing Phone (2) is definitely one of the best competitors to Apple iPhones. With its simplicity and design, it has been very well received in the grand and competitive tech market. It is a phone that, in a good way, stands out of the competition.
